Description: Also known as "Sleeping Sickness", African Trypanosomiasis is a disease spread by Teste Flies that inject metacyclic trypomastigotes into the skin tissues of a human. Once inside the circulatory system, the metacyclic trypomasitgote under goes binary fission to multiply and will become a trypomastigote. A trypomastigote is taken up by the teste fly upon bitting a human, and it will undergo developemental changes to become a metacyclic trypomasitigotes. There are two stages of the disease. Stage one consists of the parasite in the circulation system, while stage two consits of the parasite crossing the blood brain barrier. Infection with either stage will lead to death if untreated.
